SAN DIEGO – Head coach Stacie Terry-Hutson has announced the signing of Nala Williams, a 5’8” guard from Cal State Dominguez Hills who was the 2024-25 WBCA DII National Player of the Year.
“Nala is a huge addition to our program,” Terry-Hutson explained. “She is an athletic combo guard with a versatile skill set that will make a big impact for us on both ends of the floor.”
Across three years at Cal State Dominguez Hills, Williams scored 1,501 points (16.1 ppg) while averaging 5.4 rebounds, 3.6 assists and 3.3 steals per game.
This past season as a junior, Williams averaged 17.0 points, 5.1 rebounds, 4.2 assists and 4.0 steals per game while shooting 44 percent from the field, 40 percent from three and 79 percent from the line. She led the nation in steals and was in the top 20 in the country in seven other statistical categories, including assist-to-turnover ratio (7th, +1.95).
Williams (Long Beach, Calif.) helped CS Dominguez Hills reach the DII National Championship game and to a program-best 36-2 record. In addition to being named the DII National Player of the Year, she earned CCAA Player of the Year, CCAA Defensive Player of the Year and DII CCA West Region Player of the Year honors.
As a sophomore, she averaged 18.7 points, 6.2 rebounds, 3.4 assists and 3.0 steals per game and was named to the All-CCAA First Team.
In 2022-23, Williams was named the CCAA Freshman of the Year and helped the Toros go 31-3 and reach the DII Elite Eight. That season, she averaged 13.3 points, 5.3 rebounds, 3.2 assists and 2.6 steals per game and was named to the All-CCAA Second Team.
Williams attended Long Beach Poly High School where she was named the Moore League MVP, the Press-Telegram Girls Basketball Player of the Year and made the DI All-CIF Southern Section DI as a senior after averaging 18.1 points, 10.8 rebounds, 3.5 assists and 4.3 steals per game. She helped Long Beach Poly go 23-6 and 10-0 in league play and reach the CIF-SS DI semifinals.
Williams is the third transfer to come to San Diego State this offseason, joining forwards Kennedy Lee (Nevada) and Maria Konstantinidou (Fresno State).
The Aztecs are coming off a 25-win season, the third most in school history, where they won the Mountain West tournament and advanced to the NCAA tournament.
